If you can only fund one paid channel in Dubai this quarter, the answer is usually this: run Google Ads first when people already search for what you sell and the sale is urgent or expensive (clinics, home services, B2B, legal, repairs); run Meta Ads first when the product is visual or new, the decision is emotional or impulsive, or you need volume at a low cost per lead (off-plan launches, interiors, fashion, fitness, events). Most businesses I work with end up running both within six months, because Google captures the demand that exists this week and Meta creates the demand for next quarter. Below is the comparison I walk clients through before I spend a dirham of their money, with Dubai costs, industry calls and a budget-based decision table.
Google Ads vs Meta Ads: the core difference
Google Ads shows your ad to someone typing “emergency AC repair Dubai Marina” right now. The intent is high, the volume is limited to how many people search, and you pay for the click whether or not your page converts. Meta Ads (Facebook and Instagram) shows your ad to someone scrolling who matches a profile or behaviour, before they have decided to buy. Intent is lower, volume is almost unlimited, and the creative does the job that the keyword does on Google.
That one difference drives everything else: cost per click, lead quality, how fast results arrive, how much creative you need, and which industries win on which platform.
Cost comparison in Dubai (2026)
Numbers below are the ranges I see across UAE accounts I manage or audit. Full industry breakdowns are in my guides to Google Ads cost per lead in Dubai and Meta Ads cost in Dubai.
- Cost per click: Google AED 4 to AED 60 depending on keyword competition; Meta AED 1.50 to AED 8.
- Cost per lead: Google AED 30 to AED 500 depending on industry; Meta AED 30 to AED 400. Overlapping ranges, but Google leads sit higher in the range and convert to sales at a higher rate.
- Cost per qualified lead (one that answers the phone and fits): often similar on both platforms once you strip out unreachable Meta form leads. This is the number to compare, not cost per lead.
- Minimum useful monthly media budget: Google AED 3,000 to AED 5,000; Meta AED 3,000 to AED 5,000. Below that, neither platform gathers enough conversions to optimise.
- Time to first leads: Google, days, if the search volume exists; Meta, one to two weeks while the algorithm learns and creatives are tested.
- Creative needed: Google, three to five responsive ads and good landing pages; Meta, six to ten image and video variants per month, refreshed every two to three weeks.
When Google Ads should come first
- People already search for your service. Dentists, clinics, movers, maintenance, lawyers, accountants, car services, tuition, visa and company setup. Check search volume for your main keywords; if it is above a few hundred searches a month in the UAE, Google is where the buyers are.
- The sale is urgent. Emergency repairs, same-day services and anything with “near me” intent convert from search within hours, which Meta cannot do.
- The ticket is high and the buyer researches. B2B software, fit-out contracts, business setup, private schools. Searchers compare; being present at the comparison moment matters more than reach.
- You need leads this month. Search campaigns start producing in days with a tight keyword list and a dedicated landing page.
- You have a good website or landing page. Google sends traffic to a page; if the page is weak, the click is wasted. Meta can collect leads inside the app without a page at all.
When Meta Ads should come first
- The product is visual. Interiors, furniture, fashion, beauty, food, property. A strong image or video sells more than a text ad ever can.
- Nobody is searching for it yet. New developments, new clinics, new restaurants, new concepts. Google cannot reach people who do not know you exist; Meta can.
- You sell on impulse or emotion. Offers, events, launches, limited stock, lifestyle services.
- You need volume at a low cost per lead. Off-plan real estate is the classic Dubai case: Meta instant forms deliver hundreds of leads at AED 40 to AED 150, and the sales team qualifies them. I show how this works alongside Google Search in my Dubai real estate lead generation case study.
- Your audience is definable but not searching. Expat families in specific communities, business owners in free zones, gym members, new parents. Meta’s targeting plus creative does what keywords cannot.
- You want to build retargeting pools. Everyone who watches your video or visits your site becomes an audience you can reach again for a fraction of the cold cost.
Industry by industry: what I run first in Dubai
| Industry | Run first | Why | Add second |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clinics, dental, aesthetics | High-intent treatment searches; Meta health rules limit targeting | Meta for before-and-after retargeting and offers | |
| Off-plan real estate | Meta | Volume and visual launches; investors are not yet searching by project name | Google for project-name and “buy apartment in” searches |
| Secondary real estate and rentals | Buyers and tenants search by area and type | Meta retargeting of site visitors | |
| Home services and maintenance | Urgent, “near me” intent | Meta only for seasonal offers | |
| Interior design and fit-out | Meta | Visual portfolio sells; searches are few but valuable | Google for “fit-out company Dubai” and B2B terms |
| E-commerce | Meta | Product creative, catalog ads and retargeting drive most UAE store sales | Google Shopping and brand search |
| B2B and professional services | Decision makers search for solutions and providers | Meta or LinkedIn for a specific lead magnet | |
| Education and training | Course and school searches are high intent | Meta for open days and intake campaigns | |
| Restaurants, fitness, events | Meta | Local, visual, impulse | Google Business Profile and local search |
The decision by budget
- Under AED 3,000 per month: pick one platform using the table above and put the whole budget behind one offer. Splitting AED 2,500 across two platforms starves both.
- AED 3,000 to AED 6,000: still one platform, but add retargeting on the other for AED 500 to AED 1,000. Google search plus Meta retargeting is the most common winning pair for service businesses.
- AED 6,000 to AED 15,000: run both. Typically 60 to 70% to the primary platform, 30 to 40% to the second, re-balanced monthly on cost per qualified lead.
- AED 15,000 and above: both platforms with separate English and Arabic campaigns, YouTube or Reels for awareness, and Performance Max or Advantage+ where tracking is strong enough to feed them.
How I decide for a new client
- Search volume check. I pull UAE search volume for the ten keywords a customer would actually type. Strong volume points to Google first.
- Offer and visual test. If the business has photos, video or a project to show and the offer works as a thumb-stopping image, Meta is viable immediately.
- Sales capacity. Meta volume is pointless if nobody can follow up 60 leads a week within minutes. Small teams with no CRM do better with fewer, higher-intent Google leads.
- Landing page audit. A weak site pushes me towards Meta instant forms or WhatsApp while a proper landing page is built.
- Tracking. Neither platform works without conversion tracking. I set up GA4, Google Ads conversions and Meta’s Conversions API before the first campaign goes live.
- 30-day test, then re-balance. The first month proves cost per qualified lead on the primary platform; the second platform is added once the first is stable.
Common mistakes when choosing
- Judging Meta on cost per lead alone. Cheap form leads that never answer are not cheap. Measure cost per qualified lead and cost per sale.
- Judging Google on cost per click. An AED 40 click that converts at 10% costs AED 400 per lead; an AED 8 click that converts at 1% costs AED 800. Conversion rate decides the real cost.
- Sending Meta traffic to the homepage. Meta visitors did not ask for you; they need a page that explains the offer in five seconds.
- Running both with a budget that funds neither. Focus beats coverage under AED 6,000 a month.
- Switching platforms after two weeks. Meta needs two to three weeks to learn; Google needs search data to accumulate. Change the offer, the audience or the page before changing the platform.
Work with someone who runs both
As a lead generation consultant in Dubai I run Google Ads and Meta Ads for the same clients, so the recommendation is based on where your leads will cost less, not on which platform I happen to sell. Send me your website and your monthly budget and I will tell you which channel to start with, what cost per lead to expect, and what the first 30 days should look like.
Frequently asked questions
Which is better for a small business in Dubai: Google Ads or Facebook Ads?
Google Ads if customers already search for your service and you need leads quickly; Facebook and Instagram ads if your product is visual, new to the market, or you need volume at a lower cost per lead. Under AED 3,000 a month, pick one platform and fund one offer.
Is Google Ads more expensive than Meta Ads in Dubai?
Per click, yes: Google costs AED 4 to AED 60 per click against AED 1.50 to AED 8 on Meta. Per qualified lead the two are often close, because Google traffic converts at a higher rate and more of its leads answer the phone.
Can I run Google Ads and Meta Ads at the same time?
Yes, and most businesses eventually should. It works once the combined media budget is above roughly AED 6,000 a month; below that, run one platform fully and use the other only for retargeting.
Which platform works best for real estate in Dubai?
Meta for off-plan launches and lead volume, Google for secondary sales, rentals and project-name searches. Most agencies run Meta for the top of the funnel and Google to capture buyers who are actively searching.
Which platform works best for clinics in Dubai?
Google Ads first: treatment searches carry high intent and Meta’s health advertising rules restrict targeting. Meta is added later for retargeting, offers and before-and-after content within platform policies.
How long does each platform take to show results?
Google search campaigns usually produce leads within days if the search volume exists. Meta campaigns need one to two weeks of learning and creative testing before cost per lead stabilises.
What budget split should I use between Google and Meta?
A common starting split is 60 to 70% on the primary platform chosen for your industry and 30 to 40% on the second, re-balanced monthly on cost per qualified lead rather than cost per click.
